Aston Schools Indoor Football Girls Championship
Girls Indoor Football Championships
On Thursday 7th February girls from years 4,5 and 6 represented Chilwell Croft Academy in the Aston Schools Indoor Football Championship. The tournament consisted of different schools competing in two groups, with the winner and the runner up of each group progressing through to the semi finals.
Chilwell’s group including two other schools, and they were Welford Primary school and Great Barr Primary School. Each school would play each other twice, the first group game was against Welford primary which the girls won 1-0, the following game against Great Barr didn’t go as planned, going 2-0 down, however the girls dug deep and brought it back to 2-2 and ended up drawing the game. Currently sitting at top of the group and undefeated the confidence was soaring throughout the team.
The next fixture against Welford ended in a 0-0 draw, still top of the group, the next fixture against Great Barr would determine which school went through 1st or 2nd. Chilwell took an early one goal lead, however with the last kick of the game Great Barr equalised, thus ended the game in another draw. Chilwell Croft had still finished top of the group and undefeated, meaning the school had progressed into the semi finals.
The two semi finals were set, Beeches Primary school versus Welford Primary, and Chilwell Croft Academy verses Calshot Primary. Chilwell again took an early one goal lead in the game, but Calshot immediately responded with a goal of their own, 1-1. After a gruelling eight minutes the full time whistle went and it was on to extra time, Chilwell grew in confidence, lots of key chances to win the game but Calshot’s goalkeeper was in fine form. Extra time then finished and it was on to penalties. Unfortunately Chilwell lost 2-1 on penalties, a heartbreaking way to lose the semi final, but still a tremendous achievement for the girls and for the school.Back to News
