Year 6 children have been learning about poetry in English and landscape painting in art.
For this project the children had created poetry in response to ‘the city jungle’ during their English lessons. The completed poems were then used as the starting point to create their artwork.
Using imagery of the city of Birmingham as inspiration, the children produced watercolour paintings, using simple pencil drawing initially, before applying washes of colour representing both the greys of the city, and the greens of the jungle.
The architectural features were added using various pencil grades, enabling the finer details to be highlighted.
The final artworks each include three of the cityscape paintings alongside one of the children’s poems.
