CURRICULUM

Matilda

Miss Honey and Miss Trunchbull

Year 3

Children from Year 3 worked in collaboration with artist-in-residence Andrew Tims to create artwork in response to the book they were reading in the classroom – Matilda by Roald Dahl.

As part of the project the children produced collages incorporating a range of photocopied facial parts – eyes, nose, ears, hair, mouth etc, to create either a Miss Honey or Miss Trunchbull portrait.

Working individually the children pieced together their fantasy portrait using the photocopied imagery before applying colour using pencil crayons.

The final artwork, assembled together in groups of five, depicts a range of happy, sad, angry, kind, beautiful, quirky, humorous and pretty portraits.

Matilda Wormwood is only five years old, but she is a genius. Unfortunately her parents are too stupid to even notice. Worse, her horrible headmistress Miss Trunchbull is a bully who makes life difficult for Matilda’s teacher, Miss Honey, and her friends. But what Miss Trunchbull doesn’t know is that Matilda has a trick or two up her sleeve…
